An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupied.

The other day, I shared how two things happened to me in the last several weeks that provided me with an idea. An idea to share speakers’ stories. Today, I took the first step in turning that idea into a reality.
As I’ve been interviewing speakers, I am generally asking them how they got started speaking, how long they’ve been speaking and what type of topics and audiences do they speak to. The most fascinating part is when I ask about the percentage of their business that comes from actually speaking compared to consulting, coaching, books, courses, etc.
Before I get into all this with them, I explain that this idea came when I was helping Dan Pontefract co-produce SpeakAid2020, where he brought 40 speakers to talk over a 5 day span encompassing 40 hours. As part of my role, I was in the “greenroom” with Dan and the speaker before each session. I began to understand just how much the business of speaking varied from speaker to speaker. This provided me with the idea I should start interviewing speakers to begin to understand the different business models and then share them with others.
